UVOD

Naravno, i u ovom izboru možda nedostaju imena: Džil Ajrlend, Vilijam Aterton, Eva Aulin, Kejsi Aflek, Edgar Bakanan, Talula Bekhed, Ričard Belzer, Mona Beri, Dženifer Bils, Stiven Bojd, Pauers But, M. Emet Volš, Rejčel Vord, Šila Vord, Šila Gabel, i tako dalje azbučnim redom, do Čarlsa Džudelsa i Žaka Šarijea …
U svakoj nacionalnoj kinematografiji postoji još hiljade likova, tumača filmskih priča; mnogi od njih, sigurno, ako svojim umetničkim iskazom ne nadmašuju pobrojane – bar stoje u istoj ravni.
Ali, svetu je poznata sudbina nejakih. Holivudska svetla zasenjuju neke daleke i neznane zvezde; nečije kulture i tradicije jesu barijera (jezik, takođe), a pojava zvučnog filma, nakon nemog, delom je izbrisala univerzalnost filmskog jezika.

INTRODUCTION

Many of the 1000 movie stars covered in the second volume of the encyclopedia could have found their way into the first volume – 1000 greatest movie stars, on the grounds of their artistic range, importance (rank) of their roles, awards and the rating of their films, duration of their career and many other facts (and the basis for the encyclopedia comprises of 20.000 actors), and that would be fine for many likings.
For that particular reason, to settle different inclinations, are there another 1000 famous names in this second volume, sorted alphabetically. Of course, these volumes would have been quite different, had they been composed 20 or only evem 10 years ago; a great number of characters from the from the second volume would have been in the first volume because many of the first volume were just starting their with their careers. And, of course, in a decade, or in two or three decades, selections like these will be completely different. However, everything changes, just like the images change on the projection screen. Old generations don’t stay long enough for the new heroes – young generations don’t get to know the old ones.
This second volume doesn’t single out the best after the best either, i.e., as the title inaptly suggests – the second draft. After that one, considering the fact that the author processed data on 20.000 actors, it might be presumed that there would be a third, fourth draft… Of course, some names might be missing in this selection: Jill Ireland, William Atherton, Ewa Aulin, Casey Affleck, Edgar Buchanan, Tallulah Bankhead, Richard Belzer, Mona Barrie, Jennifer Beals, Stephen Boyd, Powers Boothe, M. Emmet Walsh, Rachel Ward, Sela Ward, Scilla Gabel, and so on alphabetically, to Charles Judels and Jacques Charrier …
There are thousands of characters more, film story interpreters, in every national cinematography; many of them, certainly, if not supersede the listed ones – at least stand on the same plane with them. However, the fate of the weak is widely known. The lights of Hollywood outshine come distant and unknown stars; some cultures and traditions are barriers (language as well) and the occurrence of films with sound, after the silent films, partly erased the universality of the movie language.
